The Credit Transfer Process
StraighterLine classes are approved for course credit by the American Council on Education (ACE), and have been accepted for transfer credit over 310,500 times by leading colleges and universities. ACE is regarded among the premier authorities on education and the top colleges and universities refer to their recommendation when determining whether to accept transfer credit from courses students have completed elsewhere. Taking ACE-approved courses, such as the ones offered by StraighterLine, simplifies your credit transfer process and helps you bypass certain introductory courses so that you can earn your degree faster.
No matter which courses you take, the steps for transferring the credits you earn back to your school are straightforward.
01: Confirm Your School Accepts Alternative Credits
We’ve established partnerships with 180+ schools guaranteed to accept the credits you earn through StraighterLine, while an additional 3,000+ schools have accepted StraighterLine credit.
To verify whether you’re attending a StraighterLine partner school:
-
- View our list of Partner Colleges & Universities
- Search for your school’s name to confirm if your school is listed and has its own StraighterLine partner page
- Each school partner page includes a guide that confirms which StraighterLine courses will transfer and how many credits will be awarded
If your school isn't a StraighterLine partner, contact the school you’re attending (or wish to attend) to ensure that they will accept credits for the class(es) you’re planning on completing with StraighterLine.
To initiate a course transfer request, review the StraighterLine Courses page to determine the courses you need, and then provide your school with the following information so they can review your credit transfer request:
-
-
Course name
-
Number of credits
-
Course description (found under “About This Course”)
-
Course syllabus (found by clicking the “Download Syllabus” button)
-
Course number, found on the syllabus
-
Whether your school chooses to accept and acknowledge your credit will depend on a number of factors. If you’re attending a StraighterLine school or a school that accepts ACE CREDIT®, or you’ve received written confirmation that your StraighterLine courses will be accepted for credit, the next step is to enroll in your online course.
2. Complete Your Course(s)
You’ll know your course has met transfer eligibility requirements when it has been marked as “Complete” in your StraighterLine student account with a final grade of 70% or higher and it is marked free from academic holds.
3. Request a Transcript
Once you’ve confirmed that your completed courses meet all the eligibility requirements, you can request a transcript. Transcripts enable you to demonstrate the credits you’ve earned to your college or university and are necessary to complete the credit transfer process.
4. Submit Transcripts to Your College or University
StraighterLine will submit your transcript directly to your school’s designated office or administrator for review.
To request a StraighterLine transcript:
-
-
Go to your student dashboard
-
Click the “Send Transcript” button
-
Select a transcript destination from the dropdown menu
-
Provide delivery details for transcript destination
-
Once you’ve completed those steps, we’ll handle the rest.
